Trek to Kanchenjunga North Base Camp

A trek in the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area cannot be undertaken without the assistance from the local people. There are a number of reputable companies outside of Nepal that will organise the trek for you where you team up with a group of up to 15 like-minded people. Alternatively you can organise the trek directly with one of the many trekking agencies based in Nepal. This is a cheaper and more flexible option because the trek can be tailored to your specific requirements. However, it is not always easy to discern how reliable the trekking agencies are.

I undertook this trek with my wife and two sons in April 2011. At the time my children were aged just 8 and 11. English trekking agencies will not take children of that age on Himalayan treks despite them already being veterans of long Himalayan treks. I looked at a number of trekking agencies based in Kathmandu and eventually chose to go with Outfitter Nepal. Right from the outset we were looked after very well and there was a real sense of the whole team pulling together to ensure that this was a successful expedition. The guide spoke excellent English, was knowledgeable of the area and was unusually well travelled himself, giving him an insight into why westerners like to travel. The porters were direct employees of the agency and were courteous, hard working and friendly. In the evenings they would sing traditional songs and dance to the beat of a madal drum. The children loved spending time with them and were always made welcome. We would often find them huddled under blankets singing along with the porters in the kitchen. The food was also excellent. The cook provided an incredible variety of tasty meals that fuelled us on the trek and, more importantly, kept us healthy for the entire journey. I usually lose my appetite at high altitude and return to civilisation craving the food I had not been able to eat on the trek. This did not happen on this trek because the food was of such high quality.

It was a fabulous experience to visit this wild and pristine environment with such a harmonious team supporting you. I would highly recommend outfitter Nepal as the agency to take you on this or any other trek in Nepal.

Manaslu Trekking with Outfitter Nepal!!!

I made the trek organized by Outfitter Manaslu Nepal and have been satisfied and the company received the assistance of local staff (guides, porters, and cooks), which have become as real companions. (Ho potuto vivere questo viaggio come una esperienza vera, avventurosa ea contatto con le popolazioni locali, e di vedere luoghi sconosciuti, selvaggi e irragiungibili.) I could live this trip as a real experience, adventure and contact with local populations, and to see unknown places, wild and unattainable.
