Everest (Khumbu) Trekking is the most popular trekking region in the world among the trekkers, as there are spectacular mountain peaks including Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, old Buddhist monasteries and this is the home of the Sherpas , inhabitants of the mountain region of Nepal . The Everest region is located in the north-east of Nepal. The Everest trekking area or the Solu Khumbu region is protected by the Sagarmatha National Park, established in 1976 covering an area of 1148 square kilometers. Throughout the Mt. Everest trekking region, trekkers are overwhelmed with the views of unbelievable peaks, Buddhist monasteries, and friendly Sherpa villages. Some may even have a glance of the ‘Yeti’. The local people believe that the Pangboche Monastery actually has the possession of real scalp of this Himalayan legend ‘Yeti’.

But it is quiet impossible to see Mt Everest from the Everest base camp, so most trekkers climb up to the Kala Pattar, (5545m) on the southern flank of Mt. Pumori (7145 m). From kala pattar one can see the close views of Mt. Everest and a number of other mountains such as Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse , Mt. Amadablam , Mt. Pumori , Mt. Thamserku , Mt.Kantega, Kwangde peak among others.

Generally, tourists may fall an acute high altitude sickness, therefore the trekking in Everest region is the most challenging treks in Nepal as well. While many of the routes through the mountains are arduous, there are ample places to rest and enjoy a meal along the way.
